Sharing Learning from IID’s Social Accountability Mechanism with the Regional Partners

IID, one of the OC2 grantees, shared the learnings of the social accountability mechanism from its e!quality project in Bangladesh and highlighted its efforts to engage young people in advancing accountability and transparency. From August 25th to 30th, 2024, a regional learning event took place in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the OC2 initiative under Education Out Loud. This five-day event brought together grantee organizations from the Asia-Pacific region to explore social accountability mechanisms in education.

The workshop achieved several key outcomes. Participants shared experiences and lessons learned in implementing social accountability mechanisms, focusing on various contexts, education topics, and marginalized groups. They examined effective strategies, identified challenges, and discussed how to utilize local data. Collaborative sessions enabled participants to envision improved education systems and develop strategies for enhancing social accountability. The event also facilitated reflection and planning for continued collaboration within the OC2 network.

Co-organized by Karkhana Samuha and the Asia Pacific Regional Management Unit (RMU) and facilitated by social accountability expert Dorte Jorgensen, the event included participants from civil society organizations such as I-SAPS from Pakistan, CYAN from the Philippines, MACDI from Vietnam, and Karkhana Samuha from Nepal. The workshop concluded with a cultural heritage walk in Patan, celebrating Nepal’s rich history and diversity.
