A dynamic gathering of young visionaries pitched transformative solutions to global challenges, aiming for a sustainable future. From sustainable agriculture to digital inclusivity and pollution mitigation, these innovative minds showcased the power of collaborative ideation in driving environmental and social progress.
In an intense 72-hour session at the Policy Hackathon 2024 on “Youths for Sustainable Future,” held from June 28 to July 1, 2024, 24 talented youths from Khulna, Chittagong, Dinajpur, Barishal, Dhaka, and Rajshahi engaged in rigorous brainstorming and spirited discussions. Their collective efforts culminated in pitch presentations before a distinguished panel of judges.
The jury, featuring Mahrukh Mohiuddin, Managing Director of University Press Limited and Governing Body Member of IID, Dipto Ghosal, CEO of Loginex, and Sunjida Rahman, Head of Youth for Policy, meticulously evaluated solutions addressing critical issues: sustainable living, climate resilience, pollution control, youth democracy engagement, inclusive education, and digital literacy. Tanvir Shakil Joy, Honourable Member of Parliament for Sirajganj-1, graced the event as Chief Guest, offering words of encouragement and wisdom to the participants.
One standout initiative championed by a team “Coastal Crew” from Khulna focused on empowering local youth through sustainable farming practices. Their project integrated cutting-edge agricultural techniques with community engagement strategies, offering a practical approach to mitigate climate-related challenges in vulnerable regions.
Team ‘Nirvan,’ the first runner-up, aimed at enhancing digital literacy in Rajshahi, aligning their efforts with Vision 2041 Bangladesh. Their project seeks to equip youth with essential digital skills for future success in an increasingly digital world.
Meanwhile, Team ‘Green Venture,’ the second runner-up, tackled air pollution in Dinajpur through health awareness campaigns and tree-planting drives, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to improving public health and environmental quality.
Tanvir Shakil Joy, Honourable Member of Parliament for Sirajganj-1 inspired the youths with his words: “Every participant here is a winner in my eyes. Strive for higher goals and advocate persistently for policy changes. Your dedication and innovative ideas will pave the way for a brighter, sustainable future.”
Reflecting on the event, Mahrukh Mohiuddin applauded the youths, stating, “The presentations were remarkable. The energy and enthusiasm of these young individuals are truly inspiring. Their initiatives hold immense potential, and I encourage them to continue learning and striving for excellence.”
Dipto Ghosal underscored the significance of innovation and collaboration, noting, “The ideas presented were remarkably innovative. Knowledge exchange is vital in achieving these solutions. It’s heartening to witness these youths coming together to address pressing societal issues.”
The Policy Hackathon 2024 concluded with a renewed sense of hope and determination among the participants, who left with the inspiration and tools needed to drive sustainable change in their communities.
