In response to the devastating floods that impacted over 5.8 million people in Bangladesh, Youth for Policy (YfP), in collaboration with Riddhi Prokashon and local youth organizations, has launched a nationwide relief initiative to aid affected communities.
The severe flooding in August 2024, triggered by heavy rainfall and water surges from upstream, caused widespread damage across northeastern and southeastern Bangladesh, affecting both the plains and hilly regions. The destruction has left millions displaced, with urgent needs for food, shelter, and medical care, making immediate relief essential.
Youth for Policy volunteers, in partnership with The Dreams Shelter, provided vital relief aid to Khagrachhari and Kamalchhari. Medical camps were set up in Senbagh’s Bijbagh in Noakhali to prevent the outbreak of diseases. With local hospitals overwhelmed and medicines in short supply, YfP, Riddhi, and the Bijoyekattar youth organization organized free medical camps and distributed vital medicines to families taking refuge in local shelters. In Khulna, the YfP committee supported flood victims in Paikgachha Upazila, distributing relief supplies. Additionally, food, water, sanitary pads, and essential medicines were delivered by boat to flood-stricken areas in Gobindapur and Sonagazi, in collaboration with Lal Sabuj Society.
Looking ahead, Youth for Policy plans to continue its efforts to support flood-affected communities in collaboration with local organizations, ensuring relief reaches even the most remote areas. Their mission remains to provide sustained relief, promote health and safety, and aid in recovery for those impacted by this natural disaster.
